The Featherbed Nature Reserve
After our early flight and long day yesterday it felt good to sleep in till after 7 AM but by doing so we missed the sunrise. Breakfast at the resort was excellent. The coffee was excellent as well. We have had great coffee pretty much everyplace we’ve been which really helps getting me ready for the day.
Today was a short touring day to give us some opportunity in the afternoon to just enjoy the beautiful resort. For the morning we headed to the Featherbed Estuary where we boarded an open boat and traveled across the estuary to a nature reserve. It was a bit chilly and pretty windy but a pleasant ride.
From the dock at the nature reserve we boarded a large tram that took us up the steep hill where we were treated to some amazing views of the estuary, the islands that formed it and the Indian Ocean. The walk back down took about an hour. We were glad we had walking sticks.
When we returned to the dock area we enjoyed a nice buffet lunch before heading back to our starting point.
We spent the afternoon just enjoying the resort which had beautiful gardens, walking paths, and beautifully decorated. lounges. All of the employees at the resort were delightful and very welcoming.
Tomorrow is the start of part 3 where we will do safaris every day.
